About GCM Resources

GCM Resources is a resource exploration and development company. It is the lead company developing the Phulbari Coal Project in North-West Bangladesh. GCM is awaiting approval from the Government of Bangladesh to develop the Phulbari Project.

Impacts

Environmental and climate impacts

The  Phulbari Coal Project in North-West Bangladesh, a massive open-pit coal mine, will displace up to 220,000 people and threatens the Sundarbans, one of the world's largest remaining mangrove forests and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

GCM Resources is the subject of a complaint to the OECD filed by BankTrack members World Development Movement and International Accountability Project, regarding severe human rights violations associated with the planned coal mine.
