Why this project?

Looking for a bank that doesn’t finance the climate crisis, human rights abuses or nature destruction? This page lists banks that do things differently, led by ethics and values instead of profit alone, to help you find an alternative for mainstreet bank options in your country.

We have compiled this list of banks from different external sources that we consider reliable. We have not checked them all out in detail and we do not endorse the banks listed, so we advise you to research each bank’s policies and approach before switching your bank account.

We have listed banks where they are members of the main values-led banking networks, Global Alliance for Banking on Values (GABV) and the European Federation of Ethical and Alternative Banks and Financiers (FEBEA), where they are listed on bankforgood.org, which promotes switching to fossil-free banks in the US, on the website of Fair Finance International, and a few other banks that are well-known for taking a value driven approach to banking.

If your country is not listed, we don’t have any information on good, alternative banking options there yet. If you can help point towards some, please contact us.
