International Week of Action - June 22 to 28, 2025 Stop Oil Expansion in the DRC — Stand for Climate Justice

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is threatened by a new wave of expansion of the oil and gas industry, driven by destructive multinational corporations with the complicity of the Congolese government.

Targeted companies:

  •  PERENCO, for its toxic operations in Moanda, its human rights violations, and its major environmental impacts.

  • TRAFIGURA,for its opaque contract recently signed with the Congolese government, aiming to develop new oil projects in the country, despite its history of pollution and corruption scandals.

  • TOTALENERGIES / EACOP, for its role in the potential integration of the Albertine Graben blocks into a highly risky regional pipeline.

We are also facing:

  • The opaque sale of oil and gas blocks by the Congolese government, including in ecologically sensitive areas (Central Cuvette, Albertine Graben, peatlands, forest areas).
  • The disregard for the rights of local communities, who are excluded from decision-making and exposed to serious health, social, and economic risks.

WHY A WEEK OF ACTION?
From June 22 to 28, 2025, we call on citizens, organizations, collectives, artists, researchers, lawyers, activists, and social movements from around the world to organize non-violent actions to:

  • Demand the immediate halt of all oil and gas projects in the DRC,

  • Publicly denounce the responsible companies and their financial backers,

  • Highlight the resistance of Congolese and African communities,

  • Strengthen international solidarity with Congolese communities and organizations facing the fossil fuel industry.

WHAT TYPES OF ACTIONS CAN BE ORGANIZED?

We encourage public, creative, and non-violent actions, inspired by the methods of peaceful resistance led by Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or the climate justice movements. For example:

Mobilization actions:

  • Peaceful marches

  • Sit-ins in front of DRC embassies, the headquarters of PERENCO, Trafigura, TotalEnergies, or complicit financial institutions

  • Artistic or theatrical performances denouncing the projects

  • Vigils, die-ins, symbolic happenings

  • Exhibitions or public screenings

  • Any creative, bold, or unexpected action that will help raise awareness, alert the public, or strengthen mobilization

Communication actions:

  • Collective opinion pieces or open letters

  • Mobilizations on social networks (#OurLandWithoutOil)

  • Mass emailing to banks, embassies, companies

  • Awareness campaigns online and offline (posters, videos, podcasts)
