Since the beginning of our 'Banks: Quit Coal!' campaign in 2011, we have closely tracked the adoption of coal sector policies by major international commercial banks.
Since the lead up to COP21, in Spring 2015, which saw the adoption of the first coal sector wide policy restrictions, various banks have followed and adopted a range of exclusions/restrictions.
This page gathers all the moves made by banks since then concerning the adoption or updating of respective coal policies.
As of September 2019:
- 45 banks have adopted or updated a policy restricting their coal financing;
