In February 2025, Greenpeace announced that Banco do Brasil updated its environmental, social and governance responsibility statement with new criteria for the granting of rural credit, in response to some of the demands of Greenpeace's campaign. Now, in addition to the socio-environmental criteria already required by the Manual of Rural Credit (MCR), the bank has included additional criteria demanded by Greenpeace in the Banking the Extinction report. Among the demands met by the bank are the expansion of the restriction of rural credit for rural properties that have any type of environmental embargo, and not only for deforestation, as provided by the Manual of Rural Credit (MCR), the requirement of proof of legality of deforestation and the consultation of state embargoes, even until they are integrated into the Ibama website.
