Vinci is a leading company involved in concessions and construction, and has operations in around 100 countries. It employs an estimated 180,000 people and is the largest construction company in the world in terms of revenue. It was founded in 1899 by French engineers Alexandre Giros and Louis Loucheur. It is headquartered in Rueil-Malmaison and is listed on Euronext's Paris stock exchange and is a member of the CAC 40 index.
Overall, the company is involved in the designing, building, financing and managing of various types of facilities including buildings, transportation, water, energy and communication networks.
A key concern in the operations of Vinci is their involvement in the construction of a 43 km highway from Moscow to St Petersburg. It is not the highway overall that is the concern but where it is taking place and the operations that are forcing this project through. This project has been plagued by corruption and police brutality which has led to huge resistance from activists around the world and especially in Russia.
