Close the Gap is the name of BankTrack's research effort to evaluate to what extent banks have incorporated sustainability criteria into their lending and investment policies. To assess this, BankTrack has evaluated the policies of 49 banks from 17 countries for seven key business sectors and on nine sustainability issues. In addition, the project reviews the performance of banks on transparency and accountability.

Since September 2010, 14 new banks have been added to the existing list of banks. This brings the total number of scores banks to 63.

All policies are scored on a scale from 0 to 5, with 5 being the highest score. Below you find the pages for each sector and on each issue. Each page shows:

  1. Why banks must have a policy for this sector or issue
  2. What should be included in a good bank policy for the sector or issue, based on what BankTrack considers 'best practice'
  3. The scores of all 49 banks, plus an explanation of the rationale of the scoring system

You can find the score for each bank in the section 'banks' in the menu above (orange button)
