ECA Watch Austria is an Austrian-based NGO promoting responsible export trade. It was founded as a platform of Austrian environmental and human rights organisations aiming for the reform of the Austrian export credit agency OeKB in the year 2000 and was established as an independent NGO in 2008. Our organisation does advocacy work both at the national and international level towards achieving more transparency and better practises from banks, companies, and ECAs as well as campaign work targeted at the prevention of highly destructive export projects. With these aims ECA Watch Austria also works as an activist organisation in Austria and we support and collaborate with NGOs and citizens' initiatives in Southern countries.

Sinking History - Turkey
Aug 23, 2010 - An ancient village in Hasankeyf, Southeast Turkey, is in danger of being submerged under 30 metres of water due to a new dam, leaving five thousand people homeless and destitute. In 1954, the IIisu Dam Project entered the lives of the Hasankeyf community. Once completed, the dam will submerge the village and the entire valley. Most of the inhabitants work as traders, civil servants and farmers that rely on the land. "Tourism could be a great resource for Hasankeyf", but no one will invest in a village that could be under water in a few years time. Hasankeyf lives with the threat of flooding in "suspended time".
